Lot of interesting points, especially concerning the murderers. I’ll have to look that up. In addition, William S. Burroughs (author of Naked Lunch where the dildo named Steely Dan appears) murdered his wife.

The main thing I took from Griffiths’ Steely Dan obsession was the connection to the source of the name of the band. Griffiths was a horrific sex trafficker. And while not a lot of people are aware of where the name came from unless they look it up or were beat fans, I’m guessing he knew and it tickled him to flaunt it in plain sight. There was also the table of dildos that gets knocked over when Strike is rescuing Sapphire.

Interesting post. Lots to comb through!

Kid Charlemagne is playing in Griff's house at the denouement. Louise Freeman Davis covers that here: https://fartingsofafaculty.substack.com/p/the-hallmarked-man-real-time-re-read-e05

One of the tracks on Aja that might bear some consideration is "Home at Last". This song references Odysseus, and Rowling is pretty partial to allegories to trojan mythology - Helen, Paris and a trojan horse charm for starters.

"Well the danger on the rocks is surely past

Still I remain tied to the mast

Could it be that I have found my home at last

Home at last"
